Description

Les Jardins de Babylone Vin de France Demi-Sec is an off-dry Petit Manseng from Didier Dagueneau's terraced vineyard in the Pyrenean foothills.

Jurançon lies in the foothills of the Pyrenees in the South West, where Petit Manseng is left on the vine well into autumn to shrivel and concentrate, giving sweet wines with unusually high acidity. Didier Dagueneau, better known for his work in Pouilly-Fumé, bought this amphitheatre-shaped site above Aubertin, and its terraced slopes gave the cuvée its name, a nod to the hanging gardens of Babylon. The vineyard is farmed biodynamically and the volumes made are tiny. This bottling is a rarity within a rarity, an off-dry rather than fully sweet release, showing layers of dried fruit and spice over a rich, textured palate. The sweetness is held in check by electric acidity and mineral drive, which is what keeps the wine long and precise rather than cloying.

Drinking well now and capable of long ageing. Serve at 8-10°C with foie gras, a fruit tart or a strong blue cheese.
