Lethbridge Chardonnay 375ml 2022

Lethbridge Chardonnay 375ml is the estate's multi-site Geelong and Henty Chardonnay in a half bottle.

A half bottle is a useful thing for a wine like this: enough for two glasses on a weeknight, and a faster path to maturity if you want to see where the style goes. The blend runs across four cool sites. Jack and Lois Doeven's schist vineyard at Drumborg in Henty supplies tension; Suma on the Bellarine above Swan Bay adds chalk and salt; Hat Rock, planted in 1996 on volcanic clay over limestone, brings bay-cooled fruit; and the 1996 home block at 270 metres, the coldest in the Moorabool Valley, supplies the backbone. Whole-bunch pressed, wild-fermented in new oak, full malolactic, eleven months in barrel.

Citrus, white peach and stony minerality, taut and long, with the oak carried as texture. A half bottle opens a little faster, so give it a few minutes in the glass. Serve at 12 degrees, with grilled fish, roast chicken or a bowl of mussels.
