Description
Lethbridge Pinot Gris is a skin-inflected Pinot Gris drawn from Henty, Geelong and King Valley.
The 2024 was handled in small batches, and the differences between them are deliberate: some parcels were pressed straight off skins, others given up to two days of contact to pick up phenolics and texture. Fermentation ran on indigenous yeast in new oak barrels, and the wine then aged on fine lees in a 1,300-litre foudre before bottling in July 2024. That combination of barrel ferment, partial skin contact, lees and large-format maturation is why the Gris from this cellar tastes closer in shape to a serious barrel-fermented white than to the usual pear-drop version of the variety.
Textural and dry, with nashi pear, quince and citrus peel over a faintly grippy, savoury finish. Serve at 11 degrees, not colder, or you lose the middle. Good with roast chicken, pork belly, smoked trout or a bowl of mushroom risotto.
