Lethbridge Pinot Noir 2022

Lethbridge Pinot Noir is a Geelong Pinot Noir marrying home-vineyard fruit with a bayside site on the Bellarine.

Two vineyards, two temperaments. Hat Rock, planted in 1996 between Drysdale and Portarlington, takes its name from a hat-shaped outcrop on the shore of Corio Bay and sits on a gently undulating north-facing slope of volcanic clay and loam over limestone, cooled by the water through summer. The home vineyard, planted the same year, is the Moorabool Valley's coldest site, at 270 metres on black clay above bluestone, honeycomb basalt and limestone; only its MV6 goes in, while Hat Rock adds 114, 115 and more MV6. Around half whole bunches, a gentle twenty-day ferment with punch-downs easing to a wetting of the cap, then eleven months in 40 per cent new wood.

Expressive and transparent, layered with bright red fruit, mineral lines and real purity, poised between savoury character and fruit presence. Serve at 15 degrees. Good with duck, roast chicken, salmon or a mushroom and tarragon tart.
