Lethbridge Pinot Noir 2023

Lethbridge Pinot Noir is a five-vineyard Pinot Noir representing the broader Geelong region.

Five sites give a fuller picture of Geelong than any one of them could. Hat Rock, planted on the Bellarine in 1996 on clay and limestone, holds MV6, 114 and 115. Suma, also on the peninsula and facing the ocean, went in during 1999 to MV6 on thin red clay. In the Moorabool Valley there is Hillside Haven, planted in 1998 on basalt and granite, and Springbank, planted in 2001 on red clay over limestone. The home vineyard at 270 metres closes it out. Each parcel fermented separately in open-top vessels with around half whole bunches, cool and gently handled over twenty days, then eleven months in 40 per cent new oak.

Red cherry and cranberry with whole-bunch spice, forest floor and a fine, persistent tannin frame. Bright acid, long finish. Serve at 15 degrees. Match it with roast duck, pork loin, mushroom risotto or a soft rind cheese.
