Little Reddie Nebbiolo Super Juice 2025

Little Reddie Nebbiolo Super Juice is a straight Heathcote Nebbiolo, assembled from the most aromatic barrels in the cellar.

Iron and clay soils in Heathcote suit Nebbiolo better than most people expect, and the various clones here were picked and treated separately. Block A came in early to hold freshness and went straight to press, its free-run juice used to start the ferment in tank before moving to puncheons for a natural finish. Block C was picked later and spent seven days on skins. Early oxygen exposure helped the yeast along and set firm, resolute tannins. Pat Underwood found this year more delicate than previous ones, and kept only the slinkiest, most perfumed old puncheons for the final blend.

Sour cherry, dried herbs and orange peel, with tannin that manages to be grippy and lithe at once. Acidity does the driving. A little chill helps, so 15 degrees, and it goes well with veal, roast tomatoes or pasta with butter and sage.
