Luciano Sandrone Barbera d'Alba 1.5L MAGNUM 2021

Luciano Sandrone Barbera d'Alba is drawn from four high, exposed sites between 350 and 450 metres, among the highest vineyards the estate farms.

Barbera d'Alba covers the same hills as Barolo and Barbaresco and, in the right hands, gives a wine of deep colour, low tannin and bracing acidity. Sandrone's version comes from Cascina Pe Mol, Ravera and Rocche di San Nicola at Novello, and Albarella in the commune of Barolo. The altitude and exposure of these parcels bring freshness and vibrancy, and to balance the acidity and structure the wine is matured in 500-litre tonneaux, around forty per cent of them new. The estate has untoasted barrels made in Burgundy specifically for this cuvée so that the wood makes as little mark as possible; some oak shows on the nose while the wine is young but it integrates with time in bottle. The result is fleshy without heaviness, with the herbal, spicy edge the Monforte fruit contributes.

Drinking well now and over the next eight years, and longer from magnum; serve at 16-18°C with salumi, tajarin with butter and sage, or braised pork.
