Description
Marc Brédif Vouvray Grande Année is a Chenin Blanc from Vouvray, bottled under a label whose name means, simply, great year.
Vouvray lies on the right bank of the Loire east of Tours and grows nothing but Chenin Blanc, on clay and flint over a bed of tuffeau limestone. Marc Brédif has been at Rochecorbon since 1893, in cellars quarried from that limestone, where the temperature holds steady all year without help. The house has long set aside part of the better harvests rather than selling everything young, and its reserve of older bottles is one of the deepest in the Loire. Chenin's acidity is what makes such patience worthwhile; few white grapes anywhere hold their shape as long. Baron Patrick de Ladoucette has owned the house since 1980.
Serve at about 11 degrees with roast poultry, pork or a mature goat's cheese; open the bottle carefully and pour off any sediment.
