Description
Buve Z'en is the biodynamic southern Rhône rosé Mas de Libian has made in the same way for years, simply under a new name.
The fruit comes from the estate's younger vines, spread across a selection of rocky terroirs around Saint-Marcel-d'Ardèche, where Hélène Thibon farms biodynamically. The blend is roughly a third each of Grenache, Counoise and Syrah — Counoise being one of the old southern Rhône varieties that has largely fallen out of fashion elsewhere. Following the Provençal model, all three are given a short maceration and then pressed slowly into tank, where fermentation proceeds with wild yeasts alone. There is no oak and very little handling. The result is a rosé made for drinking rather than contemplating: pale, red-fruited and floral, with a powdery freshness and a twist of dried Provençal herbs on the finish, and the mineral cut that the estate's stony sites reliably give.
Drink young, within a year or two of release, and serve at 10–12°C with grilled prawns, salade niçoise or a tomato and goat's cheese tart.
