Mas de Libian Vin de France Cave Vinum Blanc 2022

Mas de Libian Cave Vinum Blanc is a biodynamic southern Rhône white led by barrel-fermented Roussanne.

Mas de Libian lies on the right bank of the Rhône at Saint-Marcel-d'Ardèche, where Hélène Thibon farms biodynamically and crops well below the regional norm. This small-batch white is bottled as Vin de France, which allows Thibon to vary the blend with the season. Roussanne, Viognier and Clairette are all hand-harvested and vinified separately. There is more Roussanne than usual in this release, barrel-fermented and blocked from malolactic conversion to keep the acidity taut. The Viognier was raised entirely in cement and stainless steel, which preserves its aromatics without adding weight, while the Clairette fermented in Stockinger demi-muids. Assembled, the parts give a white with aromatic lift, silky texture and length. It is a reminder of how much the whites of this corner of France can offer when the farming is careful.

Drink over the next three to five years with goat's cheese, grilled fish or a terrine. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees.
