MDI Pinot Grigio 2023

MDI Pinot Grigio is a crisp, unoaked white made entirely from Pasut vineyard fruit in the Murray Darling.

Everything came off the Pasut vineyard, picked in the cool of the morning and into the winery straight away for a gentle drain and press. The skins were unusually dark that year and gave the juice a touch of colour across a four-hour press cycle, and only the purest free-run went forward. A cool ferment ran its course, then eight months on lees in stainless steel, then clarification, cold stabilisation and bottling. It is a plain sequence, deliberately so, since there is nowhere for average fruit to hide. Kevin McCarthy rates 2023 the most powerful and complex Grigio fruit he has had for these wines.

Pear, white peach and a lick of citrus over a palate with more weight and grip than most Grigio manages. Dry and long. Serve at 8 to 10 degrees with fried calamari, a summer risotto, or prosciutto and melon.
