Meltwater Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2023

Meltwater Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is a low-cropped organic Sauvignon Blanc from a sheltered Wairau site.

The vineyard sits in the southern foothills of the Wairau Valley, sheltered from the Pacific by mountains lying north and south, certified organic and cropped low. La Niña cut yields once again, but the fruit came in at full flavour ripeness with good acidity, helped along by the significant diurnal shifts the region gets. Picking was by hand, and the juice went to small tanks for spontaneous fermentation before nine months resting on fine lees. Mike Paterson is chasing texture and substance here, while holding the palate weight firmly in check.

Crisp freshness and potent purity in equal measure, the time on lees broadening the palate without dulling the fruit. Serve at 9 to 10 degrees. Try it with oysters, a goat's cheese tart, or steamed greens with lemon and good oil.
