Montinore Estate Pinot Gris 2022

Montinore Estate Pinot Gris is an Oregon Pinot Gris grown on Laurelwood soils and raised on lees.

Seven separate blocks, now averaging thirty years of age, are spread through the property, and that spread is the point: winemaker Stephen Webber gets a range of flavours and structures to work with when the blend goes together. The Tualatin Hills give cool seasons, and the Laurelwood soils, windblown loess over ancient basalt, give the wine its particular mineral cast. The estate is one of the larger biodynamically farmed properties in the United States, certified by Demeter, and it holds LIVE sustainability certification besides. Fermentation happened in stainless steel, followed by eight months undisturbed on lees.

Fresh and fleshy at once, with pear, white peach and spice, brisk acidity and a bright, mineral-flecked close. Serve at 10 degrees. Crisp-skinned salmon suits it, so does roast chicken with butter, or a plate of pork and apple.
