Montinore Estate Reserve Riesling 2019

Montinore Estate Reserve Riesling is a dry, age-worthy Riesling grown above Graham Lake in the Willamette Valley.

Cool, fresh and long describes the 2019 season: a mild spring, a warm summer and a crisp end to proceedings. Riesling responded by holding onto mouth-watering acidity while slowly reaching full ripeness and phenolic maturity, which is the ideal outcome for a dry style. The blocks face south on a slope overlooking Graham Lake, planted to own-rooted Geisenheim 68 vines now four decades old. Handpicking, whole-cluster pressing and a cool ferment in stainless steel barrels keep the handling straightforward, and the wine is held in bottle for up to two years before release.

Aromas of white peach, citrus and sweet summer flowers, then a pure, zesty palate with refreshing acidity and a spice-flecked finish. There are good years ahead of it. Pour at 9 to 10 degrees with oysters, chicken and lemongrass, or a mild curry.
