Murdoch Hill Pinot Noir 2021

Murdoch Hill Pinot Noir is an Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir drawn mainly from the Piccadilly Valley.

Where the fruit comes from shifts a little each year; the standard of it does not. The vines average more than twenty years, and in 2021 the Piccadilly Valley supplied most of the blend. Michael Downer rated the Pinot that season the most exciting thing about the vintage, and the wine bears him out, cool conditions high in the Valley giving perfume and fine structure. Ferment ran in small open vats with whole bunches dialled back slightly to a quarter, and the wine spent ten months in puncheon and barrique, around 15 per cent of it new.

Light in colour and deep in scent: red cherry, rhubarb, a little sweet spice. Pure fruit, gentle tannin, clean acid. Serve at 14 degrees with roast pork, a duck salad or grilled mushrooms on toast.
