Nicole Lamarche Gevrey-Chambertin 2021

Nicole Lamarche Gevrey-Chambertin is the domaine's first wine from the village, made in a single barrel from an eighty-year-old vineyard.

Gevrey-Chambertin is the largest of the Côte de Nuits communes and gives a sturdier, darker-fruited Pinot Noir than Vosne-Romanée, where Nicole Lamarche is based. The fruit comes from a grower she has worked with over three vintages, from a parcel planted by his grandfather that lies only metres from Mazoyères-Chambertin, on the left as you enter the village from Morey-Saint-Denis. The lieu-dit carries the name Aux Echézeaux, which is a happy coincidence for a Vosne producer. The crop was held to half the legal maximum yield, and the wine was raised in amphora and old oak, the combination Lamarche has adopted across much of her range to keep the fruit unmasked. Quantities are minute.

Approachable from three years and holding for a decade. Serve at 16-18°C with roast lamb, coq au vin or a mature hard cheese.
