Nicole Lamarche Nuits-Saint-Georges 2023

Nicole Lamarche Nuits-Saint-Georges comes from organically farmed clay soils in Les Herbues and Aux Tuyaux, with part of the wine raised in amphora.

Nuits-Saint-Georges is the commune at the southern end of the Côte de Nuits, generally firmer and more earthbound than Vosne next door. This village wine was made in tiny quantity, from organic vines in Les Herbues and Aux Tuyaux, just off the D974 before the road enters Vosne. The soils there are rich in clay and the vines are around forty years old. Roughly a third of the cuvée was raised in Nicole Lamarche's own amphorae, decorated vessels custom-built for her by an artist in Italy, which she uses to keep the fruit clear and the texture supple. The wine keeps the depth the appellation is known for, but the emphasis falls on the elegance and drinkability that run through everything she makes, with ripe red and black fruit, spice, earth and fine tannins.

Drinking well now and will hold eight to ten years. Serve at 16-18°C with roast lamb, beef cheek or a firm washed-rind cheese.
