Old Kempton Pinot Cask Strength Single Malt Whisky 500ml

Old Kempton Pinot Cask Strength Single Malt Whisky is a Tasmanian single malt bottled undiluted from Pinot Noir casks.

This shares its wood with the Classic Range Pinot bottling: casks from Frogmore Creek and Stefano Lubiana, the only barrels in the program sourced solely within Tasmania, recoopered locally with a light shave, medium toast and heavy char. A portion of 20-litre casks quickens the exchange. Four and a half years is a short maturation by the distillery's standards, deliberately so, since it keeps grape tannin from turning astringent. The base is the house wash of Tasmanian malted barley, double distilled in copper pot stills. Bottling without water leaves in everything the cask gave.

Blackcurrant, mulberry and spiced cherry from the wine casks, set against malt depth and oak. Bold in the mouth but round and smooth with it. Neat first, then water to taste; at cask strength a few drops open it up considerably.
