O'Leary Walker Clare Valley Shiraz 2023

O'Leary Walker Clare Valley Shiraz is a rich, dense Shiraz from the Clare Valley in South Australia's Mid North.

Clare Shiraz tends to combine ripe fruit with a savoury, spicy edge, and this is a good example. The winery is the long-standing partnership of David O'Leary and Nick Walker, two winemakers who built their experience at some of Australia's larger wine companies before striking out on their own. The 2023 is deep purple, with raspberry, cherry and plum, black olive and cassis, toasty mocha from oak, fine tannins, firm acidity and peppery anise spice through a chewy palate.

Serve at around 18 degrees with barbecued beef ribs, lamb shanks or a spicy chilli con carne. It will also cellar comfortably for several years.
