Description
Pian delle Vigne Rosso di Montalcino is the earlier-drinking Sangiovese from Antinori's estate on the south-western side of Montalcino.
Rosso di Montalcino was created as a separate denomination in 1983, giving growers a way to release Sangiovese from the same hill after a shorter period of ageing than Brunello demands. It comes from the same grape and the same commune, generally from younger vines or from parcels not held back for the senior wine, and is intended to be opened sooner. The Pian delle Vigne estate takes its name from the railway station on the property and has belonged to Antinori since 1995, its vineyards lying on clay and stony soils on the warmer side of the hill. Ageing takes place in oak, but briefly. Rosso and Brunello are made in the same cellars and by the same hands.
Serve at cool room temperature with pasta, roast chicken, grilled meats or a plate of salami.
