Place of Changing Winds Between Two Mountains Pinot Noir 2022

Place of Changing Winds Between Two Mountains Pinot Noir is a Macedon Ranges Pinot Noir blended across the whole estate.

Sitting roughly midway between Mount Macedon and Mount Bullengarook, the vineyard gives its name to this cuvée, which is in effect the most representative Pinot of any given season. The 2022 comes from every plot on the property, the high-density blocks included, apart from what went into the tiny Beyond the Forest bottling. Eighteen months in Stockinger casks followed, notionally 50 per cent new, though that new component was a 1,000-litre cask so its mark is faint. Bottling took place in January 2024. Fine and textural in shape, it is built to drink now and to keep.

Fine-grained and textural, with red cherry, dried herbs and a savoury edge. The tannin is powdery, the acid bright, the finish long. Serve at 15 degrees alongside duck breast, roast quail or a mushroom risotto.
