Place of Changing Winds Harcourt Marsanne Roussanne 2022

Place of Changing Winds Harcourt Marsanne Roussanne is a Bendigo white blend of Marsanne and Roussanne.

Harcourt's vineyard does double duty, supplying both this white and the estate's Syrah. The grapes were picked at flavour ripeness, pressed gently, and went directly into 500- and 228-litre barrels along with a 220-litre glass Wineglobe, where they fermented and aged; malolactic conversion happened by itself. Twelve months in cask and glass preceded eight more in tank, and bottling came at the end of November 2023. The season was cooler than its predecessors, and with a solid share of Roussanne in the blend the wine keeps its brightness alongside the weight these releases always carry.

Textured and broad, with quince, poached pear, beeswax and a granitic, faintly saline finish. Honeyed characters will come with years in bottle, though it drinks well now. Twelve to thirteen degrees. Serve with roast chicken, pork and fennel, or a bowl of mussels.
