Place of Changing Winds Larderdark Chardonnay 2022

Place of Changing Winds Larderdark Chardonnay is a Macedon Ranges Chardonnay from close-planted estate vines.

At this point in the vineyard's life the close-planted Chardonnay has given very little fruit, and tiny crops have made for concentration and power a larger yield would not. The climate takes care of the other half of the equation, keeping acidity mouth-watering and the wine driven. Fermentation and ageing took place in a glass Wineglobe, one older barrique and one new 500-litre Dominique Laurent cask. Malolactic conversion ran through, and bottling came at the end of November 2023. Glass as a fermentation vessel is becoming a habit here, since it holds fruit clarity in a way wood cannot.

Concentrated and taut, with grapefruit, white peach, a creamy lees thread and a long saline finish. Power and drive in equal measure. Serve at 12 degrees with roast chicken, scallops or a gratin of jerusalem artichoke.
