Description

Prunotto Langhe Arneis DOC is a classic white from Piemonte, one of Italy’s most prestigious wine regions and home to many of the country’s most celebrated native grape varieties. Arneis is a traditional Piedmontese grape that was once close to disappearing but has been successfully revived, earning a place among the region’s most distinctive white wines.

Produced by the renowned Prunotto estate, a winery with a history dating back to 1904 and now part of the Antinori family, this wine reflects a commitment to showcasing the character of Piemonte’s indigenous varieties. The name Arneis translates loosely to “the little rascal” in local dialect, a reference to the grape’s reputation for being challenging to grow.

This is an elegant and authentic Italian white that celebrates the heritage of Piemonte and one of its great native grapes, ideal for aperitivo, seafood and relaxed Mediterranean-style dining.

Recipe

Flan di Zucchine (Piedmont Zucchini Flan)

Ingredients:

  • 500g zucchini, grated
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 2 eggs
  • 100ml pouring cream
  • 60g Parmigiano Reggiano, grated
  • 40g fresh breadcrumbs
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
  • Salt and cracked black pepper
  • Butter, for greasing

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C and lightly butter four individual ramekins or a small baking dish.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a frying pan and gently cook the onion until softened. Add the grated zucchini and cook until the excess moisture has evaporated. Allow to cool slightly.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, cream, Parmigiano, breadcrumbs and parsley.
  4. Fold in the cooked zucchini mixture and season with salt and cracked black pepper.
  5. Divide the mixture between the ramekins and bake for 30–35 minutes until golden and just set.
  6. Allow the flans to rest for a few minutes before turning out and serving warm.

A traditional antipasto from Piedmont, this delicate zucchini flan beautifully complements Langhe Arneis, with the wine's floral aromatics, crisp acidity and subtle orchard fruit balancing the creamy texture and savoury Parmigiano.
