Pyramid Valley Central Otago Pinot Noir 2020

Pyramid Valley Central Otago Pinot Noir is a regional Pinot drawn from two parcels, at Lowburn and Bannockburn.

Most of the fruit comes from the estate's own Lowburn vineyard, a gentle north-facing slope planted in 2000 with 30 per cent own-rooted vines and some of the oldest Pinot in Central Otago, on loess over deep silts carrying lime deposits. Pyramid Valley took the reins in 2018 and began converting to organics immediately, with BioGro certification following in 2022. A second parcel from Bannockburn fills out the blend. Hand-picked fruit fermented naturally in open-top vessels with 15 per cent whole bunches and a very gentle infusion regime, aged twelve months in French barrels with a quarter new, then six months settling in tank.

Succulent next to the estate's Canterbury reds: dark cherry, exotic spice and an earthy edge, silky and fleshy, finishing long. Drink it now at 16 degrees. Roast duck, pork belly with fennel, or mushroom and taleggio gnocchi.
