Description
Quealy Campbell & Christine Pinot Noir is a wild-fermented single-vineyard Pinot from Balnarring.
Clones came off the vine separately in 2021, the 114 and 115 on 12 March and the MV6 five days later. Hand-picked fruit was gently destemmed into small vats, fermented wild and pumped over lightly twice a day, with maceration running to 28 days before pressing to a mix of hogsheads and puncheons, around a fifth new. What has changed most since the family's T'Gallant days is the farming: organic viticulture, cover crops and a lighter hand with weeds and insects have brought better balance to the vineyard, and decades of working the same exposed, north-facing coastal block have taught the team what it wants to say.
Bright red cherry and raspberry with a savoury, spicy edge and a fine, persistent tannin line. Medium-bodied and long. Serve at 16 degrees. Match it with duck breast, pork and fennel sausages, or roast beetroot with labneh.
