Quealy Campbell & Christine Pinot Noir 2023

Quealy Campbell & Christine Pinot Noir is a dry-grown single-vineyard Pinot from the Mornington Peninsula.

Dry-grown and well exposed on its north-facing coastal site, this vineyard is famous within the range for powerful fruit, and 2023's tiny yields concentrated it further. The fruit came in clean on 23 March, mostly destemmed to small vats with a portion fermented in barrel, pressed after 21 days and matured fourteen months in hogsheads, a quarter of them new, before bottling unfined and unfiltered in June 2024. The 1994 plantings are mainly MV6 with a little 114 and 115, rooted in alluvial clay and the red soils that wash down from Red Hill above the village.

There is serious flavour here, with juicy red fruits, dark spice and a savoury undertow, plus structure that suggests patience will pay. Serve at 16 to 17 degrees. Roast venison, duck confit, or a mushroom and gruyère galette.
