Description
Quealy Feri Maris Pinot Grigio is a certified organic single-vineyard Grigio from Balnarring's oldest plantings.
Australia's case for serious Pinot Grigio was largely written by Kathleen Quealy and Kevin McCarthy, and this is where the argument finds its best evidence: a single-vineyard bottling drawn entirely from the certified organic Balnarring vines established in 1982. Mature, dry-grown plants in shallow clay, cropping modestly, are the foundation, and the local habit of delivering flavour early means the fruit can be picked while the acid is still bright. Whole bunches are pressed, racked with partial solids, and fermented wild across stainless steel and French oak hogsheads, half of the barrels new. Tom McCarthy uses that barrel work to give the flavour and texture of the site a frame.
Richer and more mouth-filling than its siblings, with more mineral steel behind it: pear, citrus, ginger and a long dry close. Serve at 10 degrees. It will hold its own against roast chicken, pork cutlets, or a plate of aged cheese and pear.
