Description
Quealy Lina Lool is a skin-fermented white blend from the Balnarring home block.
The name points at the aromatic compounds sitting in Moscato Giallo skins, and the wine is the skin-fermented counterpart to the estate's Pobblebonk. Friulano leads the 2018 at two-thirds, with Malvasia Istriana, Riesling, Moscato Giallo and a little Chardonnay behind it, all grown on the home block at Balnarring. Grapes were added to open-top amphorae as they came off the vine, a rolling ferment that ran for six months on skins, then the wine was racked off and moved to large-format oak to settle and clarify. The aim, as with any good field blend, was something that adds up to more than its components.
Apricot, dried herb, orange peel and beeswax, with chewy tannin and a dry, savoury finish. Treat it like a light red at 13 to 14 degrees. Roast pork, tagine, grilled eggplant, or a board of washed-rind and hard cheeses.
