Description
Quealy Lina Lool is an amphora-fermented skin-contact white from the organic Balnarring vineyard.
Proportions move every year with what the season gives, and in 2019 Friulano fell to 45 per cent, with Riesling at a quarter, Moscato Giallo at nearly a fifth and a little Malvasia Istriana rounding it out, every grape from the home block at Balnarring. Bunches went into open-top amphorae as they were picked, building a rolling ferment that spent six months on skins. Basket pressing followed, then a rough settling and maturation in old French puncheons before bottling a year later. A small sulphur addition at pressing and another at bottling is the only intervention.
Aromatic and textural: quince, dried apricot, ginger and a lick of citrus peel, with soft tannic grip and a dry close. Serve at 13 degrees. Pair it with charcuterie, roast chicken and preserved lemon, or a spiced pumpkin and chickpea stew.
