Description
Quealy Mornington Peninsula Pinot Grigio is a dry, textural Grigio from three Peninsula vineyards.
Musk Creek, the Campbell and Christine, and Hickson's at Balnarring supply the fruit, all of them farmed by the Quealy team, and the sites are chosen to reach full ripeness without heavy crops. Whole bunches are pressed slowly over twelve hours, no sulphur goes near the wine in its early life, malolactic fermentation starts by itself and the lees are never stirred. Every one of those choices is about freshness. The juicy, pulpy texture and steely spine here come from the fruit and the press, not from additions. Anyone who thinks this grape is a shrug of a wine has been drinking the wrong ones.
Pear skin, lemon and a whisper of almond, with a supple middle and a dry, mineral finish. Nine to ten degrees, in a decent glass. Serve with oysters, salt-and-pepper squid, prosciutto, or a summer salad of peach and burrata.
