Description
Quealy Mornington Peninsula Pinot Grigio is a dry regional Grigio drawn from six dry-grown vineyards.
All six of the estate's dry-grown, low-yielding vineyards contribute to this label, and because they sit at different elevations and aspects, picking can run any time from the end of February to the end of March. Fruit is always taken at optimal ripeness. Whole bunches are pressed slowly across twelve hours, with no sulphur used at any stage of the winemaking. Vinification is in stainless steel, malolactic conversion is partial and spontaneous, and the wine rests six months on lees without stirring. Friuli and Collio are the reference points, and the aim is chiselled freshness sitting under a silky texture.
Green pear, citrus blossom and wet stone, with a pulpy middle and a clean, dry, faintly saline close. Serve it at 9 to 10 degrees. Good with sashimi, grilled flathead, chicken and tarragon, or a plate of soft cheese and crackers.
