Quealy Musk Creek Pinot Gris 2019

Quealy Musk Creek Pinot Gris is a single-vineyard Pinot Gris from high on Main Ridge.

The vineyard sits between 180 and 210 metres, looking out over Western Port and the heads, where the constant breeze off Bass Strait keeps the fruit fresh and the ripening slow. It is considerably cooler than the estate's Tussie Mussie site and picks much later. Planted in 1994, it produces bunches of tiny pink berries with high natural acidity, and the wine that follows is deeper, spicier and more mineral than the Peninsula norm. The two single-vineyard Gris are made almost identically; the difference here is that no French oak is used, and a little pressings wine is added back to the free-run for structure and grip.

Pink grapefruit, poached pear and a warm spice note, with firm phenolic grip and a long, dry finish. This is Gris with substance. Serve at 10 to 11 degrees. Roast pork, duck rillettes, or a plate of salumi and pickled vegetables.
