Quealy Turbul Ribolla Gialla 2021

Quealy Turbul Ribolla Gialla is a macerated white made from Ribolla Gialla grown on organic soils at Balnarring.

Ribolla Gialla owes much of its reputation to Joško Gravner, and outside northeast Italy you will hardly find it planted. Years of travelling, working and building friendships in Friuli made it close to inevitable that a slice of that thinking would land on the Mornington Peninsula, and the first vines went into Balnarring's organic soils in 2018. The sun-soaked 2021 season delivered small berries with deep colour in early April. Fruit was destemmed, then fermented on skins in open steel tanks, staying in vessel until early September before maturing in seasoned wood on light lees for thirty months before bottling in early 2024.

Subtler on the nose than its stablemates but still floral, with blood orange, apricot and savoury woody herbs. Sweet, savoury and slightly wild all at once, with polishing acidity through the finish. Serve at 13 degrees with roast chicken, mushroom risotto, or a plate of prosciutto and grissini.
