Quealy Tussie Mussie Late Harvest Pinot Gris is a sweet, late-picked Pinot Gris in a 375ml bottle.

Alsace runs deep at this address, not least through vineyard manager Lucas Blanck, son of the Kaysersberg vigneron Frédéric Blanck. The model here is the vendange tardive of his homeland, where Pinot Gris is left on the vine well past normal picking until sugar and botrytis have both had their say. The fruit is drawn from a portion of the A-Block at the Merricks North vineyard, an area assessed over several seasons as the reliable spot for botrytis to arrive late and cleanly. Half-bottles make sense for a wine like this, since a little goes a long way and the sweetness is balanced by the acidity the Peninsula's cool nights preserve.

Sweet but not cloying, with dried apricot, honey, quince paste and a citrus lift that keeps it moving. Serve well chilled, around 8 degrees, in a small glass. Match it with blue cheese, a fruit tart, or foie gras if the occasion calls for it.
