Quealy Tussie Mussie Pinot Gris 2022

Quealy Tussie Mussie Pinot Gris is an unfined, unfiltered dry Pinot Gris from the Mornington Peninsula.

Nine months on lees in stainless steel is the whole story of the 2022's texture. Whole bunches went to press for six hours at low pressure, Alsatian style, so only the gentlest phenolics came across, and only the free-run juice was kept. The vineyard behind it was planted in 2007 on a former rose farm at Merricks North, north-facing between 120 and 150 metres on deep red volcanic clay, warm and well sheltered. Bottling came without fining or filtration. The Gris and Grigio distinction matters to this family, and this is squarely the Gris side: broader, riper, with more flesh on the bone.

Fleshy orchard fruit, white flowers, spice and a ripple of marine salt, the palate flowing on lees weight against fresh acidity and a rocky, mineral edge. Serve at 10 degrees. Good with roast chicken, pork cutlet, or a creamy potato gratin.
