Quealy Tussie Mussie Pinot Gris 2024

Quealy Tussie Mussie Pinot Gris is a dry Pinot Gris grown on red volcanic clay at Merricks North.

An old rose farm became a vineyard in 2007, which is where the name comes from, a tussie mussie being a small posy of flowers. Three hectares of Pinot Noir and Gris are rooted here in the deep red volcanic clays that are the most prized soil type on the Peninsula, and the northerly position and north-facing slope together stretch ripening out. For the 2024, fruit came in over two passes in early and mid-March in excellent condition. Whole bunches were pressed on a long cycle, then fermented mostly in tank, roughly a tenth of it in barrel, with some solids retained and seven months on lees to follow.

Pear, yellow peach and a dusting of spice, with saline freshness and a balanced, elegant finish. Ten degrees, and give it a proper white wine glass. Serve it with roast chicken, prawn linguine, or a soft washed-rind cheese and bread.
