Quealy Tussie Mussie Pinot Noir 2021

Quealy Tussie Mussie Pinot Noir is a light-bodied, single-vineyard Pinot Noir from clone 777 at Merricks North.

The Pinot block here is planted entirely to clone 777, better known to romantics as the Morey clone. It cropped lightly by nature, and the vines are pruned to a single arched cane so that every bunch gets light and air around it. Farming is organic, with certification following in its own time. Of the three single-site Pinots in this range, this one is consistently the most open and approachable. The 2021 fermented in small open-top vessels with a modest ten per cent whole bunches, matured in two and three-year-old barrels, then went back to tank for a further twelve months before bottling.

Bright red cherry, raspberry and a dusting of white pepper, with supple tannin, gentle spice from the bunches and easy length through the finish. Serve it at 14 degrees, or lightly chilled in summer. Good with duck breast, a mushroom and bacon pasta, or roast chicken with tarragon.
