Quealy Tussie Mussie Pinot Noir 2023

Quealy Tussie Mussie Pinot Noir is a bright, perfumed Pinot Noir from a three-hectare vineyard at Merricks North.

The Pinot sits in the lower and central parts of this north-facing site, all of it clone 777, dry-grown and organically farmed with certification imminent. Tom McCarthy called 2023 a repeat of the year before, flowering again cutting the crop while the fruit that made it through was exceptional. Picking fell at the end of March, and the fruit was split into two ferments, one whole bunch and one destemmed. Pressing came after twenty-five days, and maturation ran across new barrels at twenty-five per cent with one, two and three-year-old wood making up the rest. Bottling followed ten months later.

Perfumed and bright, with whole-bunch lift over pure berry fruit, spice and woodsy earth, savoury and fresh through a punchy finish. Serve at 14 degrees. A bowl of duck ragu is the obvious call, though roast pork or mushrooms on toast work too.
