Radio-Coteau Sonoma Coast Wingtine Chardonnay 2020

Radio-Coteau Sonoma Coast Wingtine Chardonnay is a biodynamically and organically grown Chardonnay from two Occidental vineyards.

The name comes from a cultivation tool, the wing tine shank, used here and across the Sonoma Coast to work the sandy Goldridge loams. It lifts and fractures the ground both vertically and horizontally, cutting the number of tractor passes needed while keeping soil structure intact. The cuvée draws on the biodynamic estate vineyard, whose SeaBed plot holds several Wente clones descended from material that arrived from Burgundy in 1912, and on the organically farmed Heintz Ranch a short distance away, where the vines are over thirty years old and the diurnal swing is wide. Eric Sussman believes the balance between the two parcels is what makes the wine.

Floral and mineral in cut, with white peach, lemon zest, oyster shell and a long, chalky finish. Serve at 12 degrees. Oysters, grilled whiting, or a roast chicken with lemon and thyme are all natural partners.
