Robert Weil Kiedrich Gräfenberg Grosses Gewächs is the only GG the estate makes, drawn from its oldest vines.

Gräfenberg, the hill of the counts, has been used to designate Robert Weil's finest wines since the site was officially classified as Weinlage 1 Klasse in 1867. The vineyard holds the estate's oldest vines, up to eighty years of age, the majority still on their own rootstock. Wilhelm Weil could release a Grosses Gewächs from three of his single vineyards but reserves the designation for Gräfenberg alone. His stated aim is to match the full-bodied dry Rieslings the Rheingau produced a century ago, when the region's finest whites were the most expensive wines in the world. Against the estate's Turmberg and Klosterberg, this is not necessarily more intense but is finer and more complete. The wine was raised for ten months on lees in large, neutral oak doppelstückfass, the sizeable Stockinger casks that build texture without imposing wood character.

Drinkable young with decanting, it will keep and improve for well over a decade; try it with roast pork, lobster or aged Comté at 10-12°C.
