Description
Robert Weil Kiedrich Klosterberg Riesling Trocken is a dry single-vineyard Rheingau Riesling from the estate's highest hillside site.
The Rheingau runs along a south-facing stretch of the Rhine west of Wiesbaden, and Kiedrich is one of its most established villages. Robert Weil has been based there since 1875 and works three hillside vineyards above the village. Klosterberg is the highest of them, four hectares of steep slope at 260 metres, planted to vines now thirty to fifty years old. Its aspect and its deeper, weathered-slate soils produce the suppler and more forward of the estate's dry wines; the Weil team reach for the word baroque to describe the exuberance the site gives. The wine is made trocken, fully dry, with the residual sugar low enough that the Rheingau's characteristic weight of fruit sits against a firm acid line rather than behind sweetness.
Good now and capable of a decade or more in bottle. Serve at 10-12°C with pork belly, smoked fish or a plate of Asian-spiced chicken.
