Robert Weil Rheingau Riesling Trocken 2020

Robert Weil Rheingau Riesling Trocken is the dry village-level Riesling of one of the Rheingau's leading estates.

Robert Weil is based at Kiedrich, above the Rhine, and is best known for the Gräfenberg, one of Germany's most highly regarded single vineyards. This cuvée blends fruit from high-sited parcels around the village, including the Sandgrub and a good proportion from Wasseros, a steep southwest-facing vineyard that adjoins the Gräfenberg vines. The soils across these sites are typically stony, fragmented phyllite laced with loess and loam, which gives the wine a firm mineral frame rather than obvious weight. Vinification is largely in stainless steel, with around five per cent fermented in large oak to add a little breadth. The style is dry in the trocken sense, with the estate's characteristic clarity and a long, taut finish.

Drinking well now and worth keeping five to eight years. Good with trout, roast pork or a soft white cheese. Serve at 10-12°C.
