Description
Robert Weil Rheingau Riesling Trocken is the estate's dry village Riesling, drawn from its higher sites around Kiedrich.
The Rheingau runs along the north bank of the Rhine west of Wiesbaden, and Robert Weil, at Kiedrich, is one of its best-known estates. This cuvée blends fruit from the estate's higher sites around the village, among them the Sandgrub vineyard and a substantial share from Wasseros, a steep, south-west-facing site that abuts the Gräfenberg vines. The soils there are typically stony, fragmented phyllite laced with loess and loam, which suits a dry Riesling built on tension rather than weight. At this level the wine is vinified in stainless steel, with less than 5% fermented in large oak, so the emphasis falls on clarity, leesy texture and freshness. It is dry, sleek and long, and serves as the entry point to the estate's range.
Drinking well on release and capable of six or seven years. Serve at 10-12°C with grilled fish, roast pork or a Thai salad.
