Description
Robert Weil Rheingau Riesling Trocken in a 375ml half bottle is the dry village Riesling of a leading Rheingau estate.
Robert Weil is based at Kiedrich, above the Rhine, and is best known for the Gräfenberg, one of Germany's most highly regarded single vineyards. This cuvée blends fruit from high-sited parcels around the village, including the Sandgrub and a good proportion from Wasseros, a steep southwest-facing vineyard that adjoins the Gräfenberg vines. The soils across these sites are typically stony, fragmented phyllite laced with loess and loam, which gives the wine a firm mineral frame rather than obvious weight. Vinification is largely in stainless steel, with around five per cent fermented in large oak to add a little breadth. The half bottle is a practical size for a single serving or for a restaurant by-the-glass pour.
Ready now, and half bottles are best drunk within three or four years. Good with trout, roast pork or a soft white cheese. Serve at 10-12°C.
