Sadie Family Citrusdal Mountain Kokerboom 2024

Sadie Family Citrusdal Mountain Kokerboom is a dry white blend of Semillon Blanc and Semillon Gris from 1930s vines.

Table Mountain sandstone, planted in the 1930s, no herbicide or artificial fertiliser in its entire history, and pruned meticulously across generations: the vineyard behind this wine is among the last old-vine Semillon plantings left in Swartland, at a time when the variety once made up eighty per cent of South Africa's plantings. Semillon Gris accounts for fifteen to thirty per cent depending on the season, harvested and pressed together with the Blanc and raised in large-format oak. Of the 2024, Eben Sadie says the tannin, acidity, texture and volume are remarkable, and that the power of the terroir has left him in awe. This release leans towards the fresher side of the site.

Fresher in cut than some years, with lime, chamomile, green almond and a waxy, faintly tannic weight through a long dry finish. Serve at 12 degrees. It suits grilled fish, roast chicken with lemon, or a plate of charcuterie and hard cheese.
