Spinifex Lola 2019

Spinifex Lola is a Barossa white blend led by Semillon, with Clairette, Vermentino and Viognier.

Semillon has grown in the Barossa since the 1850s and this wine is the tribute, though it dropped just under half the blend in 2019 at 46 per cent, with 30 per cent Clairette and the rest split between Vermentino and Viognier. The Semillon comes from three old-vine sites aged 60, 70 and 90 years, at Ebenezer, in the foothills near Bethany and on the valley floor by the Para River. Clairette off a high Rowland Flat block adds freshness, the other two texture and stone fruit. All parcels were hand-picked, chilled, macerated from two to twenty-four hours, then wild-fermented across old barriques, puncheons and steel.

Fresh and gently waxy, with lemon, white peach, hay and a savoury, phenolic finish. Serve at 11 to 12 degrees. It belongs at the table: roast chicken, pork rillettes, or a salad of fennel, orange and olives.
