Spinifex Lola 2022

Spinifex Lola is a Barossa white of Semillon, Clairette, Ugni Blanc and Chenin Blanc.

The 2022 reads 40 per cent Semillon, 28 Clairette, 16 Ugni Blanc and 16 Chenin Blanc. Semillon, in the Barossa since the 1850s, comes from three old-vine Ebenezer sites of 65, 75 and 95 years. The Clairette grows high on the valley's eastern side at Rowland Flat, ripening late and holding acidity, and the last two grapes contribute texture and salinity. Nothing here is conventional, and that is the appeal: maturation happens on lees in mostly older wood, and the result is one of the more complex whites the region produces. Layered and savoury: florals, citrus, hay, a honeyed depth and a wisp of reduction, with salty inflections and waxy texture. Serve at 11 to 12 degrees. A dining-table wine: roast pork, grilled fish, or a cheese board.
