Spinifex Miette Shiraz 2019

Spinifex Miette Shiraz is a Barossa Shiraz drawn from six vineyards plus cooler high-country fruit.

Miette means crumbs, and the label started life on the offcuts that fell from the top of the range; these days the fruit is bought for the purpose. The core came from six key sites at Ebenezer, Bethany, Tanunda and Moppa, all serious Barossa addresses with a record for deep, honest Shiraz flavour and structure, with parcels from the higher Barossa Ranges and Eden Valley blended in for freshness. Everything was hand-picked and fermented on wild yeast with about 20 per cent whole bunches, then aged across French oak from 225 to 2,500 litres and some steel, bottled twenty months after vintage.

Generous but composed, with blackberry, plum, pepper and a savoury, earthy finish on supple tannin. Serve at 16 to 17 degrees. Barbecued lamb, a beef and mushroom pie, or sausages with onion gravy. An easy wine to keep on hand.
