Spinifex Moppa Shiraz 2021

Spinifex Moppa Shiraz is a single-site Barossa Shiraz from vines thought to be at least eighty years old.

A high block of three and a half acres in the north-west of the valley, farmed organically for four decades by a vigneron who grew up on it, has been a key fruit source since 2005. Hand-harvested fruit fermented with 30 per cent whole bunches in both wood and steel over ten to twenty-four days, then went into a mix of puncheons, demi-muids and barriques, 40 per cent of them new, resting on light lees until racking and blending twenty months after harvest. The first single-vineyard release came in 2015, and the wine has grown in stature since.

Restrained power, with abundant dark fruit and complex spice held in balance by weight, structure and acidity, and a finish that will not quit. Serve at 17 degrees. Roast lamb, beef brisket, or mushrooms and polenta.
